GOBABIS, 24 MAR (NAMPA) - Omaheke Governor Pijoo Nganate has cautioned local authority councillors that they are indebted to the electorate following promises made during the elections.
Speaking on Monday at the opening of a week-long induction training in Gobabis for the //Kharas and Omaheke regions, Nganate characterised the presence of newly elected officials as a testament to the trust placed in their vision.
“You made a lot of promises during the campaign season in November 2025, and those promises must be kept,” Nganate stated.
The governor noted that politicians are frequently accused of making empty promises for “cheap votes” and challenged the officials to dismantle those allegations during their five-year tenure.
“Prove that you are here to stand on business. We must be clear from the very beginning that a mandate without a method is a recipe for stagnation,” Nganate said, adding that the training provides the necessary methodologies for success.
The governor framed the councillors' roles as “foot soldiers” for the national agenda, noting that their mission is to support the presidency and ensure the success of the eighth administration.
“President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah is always reminding us to move forward together as ‘One Namibia, One Nation,’ united in purpose, confident in our future, and committed to building a prosperous Namibia for all,” he added.
The governor further urged leaders to prioritise economic growth and accountability, citing Prime Minister Elijah Ngurare’s focus on removing bureaucratic bottlenecks. He concluded by calling for a disciplined approach to governance.
“We must, as a collective, work diligently to ensure efficient delivery, and that requires the total elimination of retrogressive tendencies like corruption, nepotism and laziness,” Nganate said.
The training programme covers an overview of the legislation, roles, and principles that govern regional and local authority operations in Namibia. Specific aspects being addressed include the Local Authority Act, local authority finance, land management, human resources management, meeting and voting procedures, public procurement, and general regulations.
