WINDHOEK, 21 MAR (NAMPA) – The /Khomanin Traditional Authority on Saturday appealed to the government to allocate additional land to traditional authorities, saying the current land holdings are not enough to meet growing demands from community members.
In a speech read on her behalf at the 36th Independence Day celebration at the Sam Nujoma Stadium in Windhoek, Chief Julianne Gawa!Nas of the /Khomanin traditional authority said the limited land they have has made it difficult for traditional leaders to address the increasing requests for land, which in turn results in tension among community members.
“We request government to consider providing more land for our traditional community as the land that we have cannot accommodate everyone,” said Gawa!Nas.
The chief noted that despite the current challenges, the community remains committed to national unity, peace, and development, adding that Namibia continues to be a place where every community has a place.
She further noted that the youth are the living promise of independence and they carry the responsibility of building the nation with integrity.
“Let unity guide you and let your attitude be rooted in the desire to uplift yourselves, your communities and your nation,” said Gawa!Nas.
She encouraged citizens to honour the past not only with words, but with tangible action, adding that national diversity should be celebrated.
She further urged Namibians to renew their commitment to unity, peace, progress and the elimination of tribalism.
