Berlin (dpa) - After narrowly losing the first of this year's five state elections earlier this month, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz's conservatives are looking for a win in Sunday's vote in the wine-growing state of Rhineland-Palatinate. A victory for his Christian Democratic Union (CDU) party would, however, be an upset for the Social Democrats (SPD), the junior partner in Merz's federal coalition government.
