OPUWO, 21 MAR (NAMPA) - Minister of Health and Social Services, Esperance Luvindao, has called for equal access to healthcare and opportunities for all Namibians, saying independence must translate into dignity and inclusion.
Speaking during the 36th Independence anniversary celebrations in Khorixas on Saturday, Luvindao urged citizens to reflect on how freedom is being used to improve lives. “Independence is not just about where we have come from, it is about where we are going,” she said.
The minister stressed that true independence should be measured by the well-being of citizens.
“It is about that child in a rural village who dreams of becoming a doctor, the mother who deserves safe healthcare, and the family that needs access to quality services regardless of where they live,” she said.
Luvindao emphasised the need to build a Namibia where healthcare is a right and not a privilege.
“We must move beyond celebration into transformation, building a Namibia where nobody is left behind,” she said, adding that access to essential services must be inclusive and equitable.
The minister further highlighted the importance of empowering young people, describing them as active contributors to national development.
She also called for unity and collective responsibility across all sectors, including health, education and agriculture, and urged citizens to prioritise service over self-interest in order to drive national progress.
“Independence must mean opportunity, access and dignity for every single one of us,” Luvindao said, encouraging Namibians to take bold steps in transforming the country and improving livelihoods.
She concluded by urging citizens to embrace their role in shaping the nation’s future.
“Let this be the generation that does not inherit freedom passively but uses it boldly. Let us build, transform and rise,” she said.
Independence celebrations were held in all 14 regions on Saturday to ensure broader inclusivity and participation for all citizens.
