(250704) -- QINGDAO, July 4, 2025 (Xinhua) -- A staff member works at a control room of an offshore integrated fishery and photovoltaic project in Jimo District, Qingdao, east China's Shandong Province, July 3, 2025. The first phase of an integrated fishery and photovoltaic project has started generating electricity off the coast of Qingdao. With a total investment of 10.2 billion yuan (about 1.42 billion U.S. dollars), the full project is planned for 1.15 gigawatts (GW) of capacity. Its innovative design creates a dual-use marine space, with solar panels generating electricity above the water, while the area beneath supporting fish farming.
Once the first phase is put into operation at full capacity, it's projected to produce approximately 1.07 billion kilowatt-hours of green electricity. (Xinhua/Li Ziheng)
