Japan Strengthens Minesweeping Capabilities as US Plans to Retire Such Vessels - Minister

TOKYO, March 27 (RIA Novosti) - Japan is strengthening its minesweeping capabilities as the United States plans to retire such vessels by 2027, Japanese Defense Minister Shinjiro Koizumi said on Friday. "For our country, a maritime nation surrounded by sea on all sides, ensuring the safety of sea lines is critically important, and possessing highly developed minesweeping capabilities is essential," the minister said at a press conference.
