Merz's CDU, centre-left SPD in tight race in western German state

Koblenz, Germany (dpa) - Chancellor Friedrich Merz's conservative Christian Democrats (CDU) and the centre-left Social Democrats (SPD) are neck-and-neck in Rhineland-Palatinate, a poll showed on Thursday, one month before the south-western state holds elections. The survey by polling institute Infratest dimap found the CDU leading on 28%, with the SPD - which leads the incumbent state government - just behind on 27% ahead of the vote on March 22......
