NKURENKURU, 05 APR (NAMPA) -The new Governor of the Kavango West Region, Verna Sinimbo, was officially welcomed by former Governor and now Member of Parliament, Sirkka Ausiku, at the Nkurenkuru Expo Hall on Friday.
The ceremony was attended by regional leadership, staff members from the Governor’s office, and members of the community.
Ausiku expressed her pleasure in welcoming the new Governor to what she described as a young, yet growing, region, stating her confidence that Sinimbo will continue to advance the development agenda.
“As I have brief you about where we are and the challenges we have, your task is to see now how to address the issue of poverty, unemployment among the youth, lack of infrastructure development, especially rural roads, federal roads, motor infrastructure and rural electrification program.
“Most of our villages including our five settlements are located without electricity, people cannot come up with small industry to create employment even if we have counselor structures in the region,” said Ausiku.
Chairperson of the Kavango West Regional Council, Joseph Sikongo, remarked that after listening to Sinimbo’s interview at State House, in which she prioritised agriculture, he felt encouraged about the region’s direction.
“This change of leadership is just but a formality. I foresee a continuation of good programmes aimed at uplifting our residents from poverty, hunger, and leading them to a prosperous tomorrow,” said Sikongo.
In the vote of thanks, the Mayor of Nkurenkuru, Japhet Muti, expressed excitement on behalf of the region to work alongside the new Governor, adding that Sinimbo’s leadership would bring a fresh perspective, innovative ideas, and a strong commitment to growth and development.
“We have faith that under your guidance, we will continue to thrive, and we look forward to the positive changes you will bring,” said Muti.
Muti also paid tribute to former Governor Sirkka Ausiku, stating that as the region bids her farewell, they do so with respect, admiration, and gratitude for her lasting contributions as the very first Governor of Kavango West.
During the welcoming ceremony, the former Governor handed over official reports and key documents to Verna Sinimbo, symbolising a smooth transition of leadership.
