Allianz says heat cuts Europe's economic output

Munich (dpa) - Europe's economy lost an estimated ?113 billion ($128.5 billion) this year as extreme summer heat hit productivity and output, German insurer Allianz said. Italy suffered the largest estimated losses at ?28 billion, followed by Germany at ?25 billion, according to Allianz. France ranked third with a ?20-billion hit to gross domestic product.
