WINDHOEK, 01 JUN (NAMPA) – Martin ‘Alligator’ Mukungu produced a stunning performance Saturday night, outclassing Flame ‘Special One’ Nangolo during the AC Boxing Promotions Blockbuster Box and Dine event held in Windhoek.
The highly anticipated main bout saw the stylish Nangolo put his World Boxing Organisation (WBO) Africa Junior Lightweight title on the line against Mukungu of the MTC Nestor Tobias Sunshine Boxing and Fitness Academy.
Nangolo entered the contest unbeaten, boasting an impressive record of 14 victories from 14 professional fights, including five wins by knockout. However, Mukungu, who hails from Kavango, arrived determined to rewrite history after previously losing to Nangolo during their amateur boxing days.
The challenger wasted little time in making his intentions clear. In a dramatic opening round, Mukungu shocked spectators by catching the champion with a powerful southpaw hook. Although the first round had produced little action up to that point, the punch sent Nangolo to the canvas and left him struggling to regain his composure.
Nangolo attempted to steady himself by clinching and holding onto both Mukungu and the canvas while awaiting referee Lazarus Nainda’s intervention. However, once the fighters were separated, Mukungu immediately resumed his assault. The ‘Alligator’ landed a perfectly timed jab that sent Nangolo crashing to the floor for the first time in his professional career.
While Nangolo managed to beat the referee’s count, he was unable to regain his balance, prompting Nainda to wave off the contest and award Mukungu a sensational first-round victory.
The triumph improves Mukungu’s professional record to 14 wins and two defeats from 16 fights, with nine of those victories coming by knockout.
In the evening’s chief supporting bout, AC Boxing Promotions fighter Ruaan Rispel of Okahandja secured a first-round victory over JMB Boxing Club’s Reinhold Mateus in their lightweight contest.
MTC Sunshine Boxing Club’s rising prospects also impressed, with Elifas Shailemo making a successful professional debut by defeating Emmanuel Jason of MTC Kilimanjaro Boxing Club.
Walvis Bay-based Kambinda Boxing protégé Divas Namungongo maintained his unbeaten start to professional boxing, improving his record to two wins from two bouts after outclassing JMB Boxing’s Paulus Iipinge in their four-round lightweight contest.
Elsewhere, Robert Ndalelwa of AC Boxing and Abraham Petrus of JMB Boxing fought to a draw after six competitive rounds in the junior welterweight division.
Paulus Amavila of AC Boxing also delivered a commanding performance, defeating Fillipus Amwaama of JMB Boxing after four rounds in their junior lightweight encounter.
