The fate of two sailing boats carrying aid to Cuba remained unclear Friday with the US Coast Guard stressing it was not involved in the search after earlier having stated the boats safely crossed from Mexico. Coast Guard spokesman Anthony Randisi initially told AFP that the US authorities had "received a report at 10:36 am (1436 GMT) today that the two vessels safely transited to Cuba."
