KATIMA MULILO, 20 MAR (NAMPA) – The Namport Zambezi Regional Second Division League is shifting its focus to the second half of the season, with the second leg tentatively scheduled to kick off in the second week of April.
Zambezi Regional Football Association Secretary General Flavian Libita confirmed that while the league is currently on a break, the restart remains dependent on the disbursal of funds from the Namibia Football Association.
“For now we are on a break, but we are likely to commence in the second week of April, depending on the disbursal of funds by the NFA. As of next week, people will be busy with preparations for the Nedbank Namibian Newspaper Cup, which will be held in the south,” Libita said.
He noted that the start date remains flexible pending agreements with club representatives.
This mid-season pause provides a crucial reset for the 12 participating clubs as they eye a final sprint toward the season finale on 15 June 2026.
Bush Bucks FC currently hold a narrow lead at the top of the table. Their dominant first-leg performance, which included eight wins and a league-high 26 goals, has earned them 25 points. However, they face pressure from Oryza Sativa and Shooting Stars, who are tied at 23 points each.
The first leg of the season concluded last weekend, with all 12 participating clubs having played 11 matches.
Oryza Sativa, who beat Namib Chiefs 4-3 last weekend after two of their previous match encounters were postponed due to severe rain, is now second on goal difference, but on par with Shooting Stars at 23 points each.
Space Age and Black Buffaloes come in fourth and fifth on 19 points, but are separated by a goal difference.
Green Eagles and Namib Chiefs are on 12 points each but separated by goal difference, while Blue Chiefs and Roccano King Rangers sit on 11 points.
Zambezi Sporting Academy is on 10 points, having only won three matches, drawn once and lost eight games.
Real Cheetahs sits at the bottom of the log on seven points after winning two matches this season, drawing once and losing eight games with 10 goals scored for this season.
