The United States is fostering alliances in Brazil to establish new rare earth supply chains, an embassy official said Wednesday, amid new diplomatic tensions between Washington and Brasilia. US officials on Wednesday signed a memorandum of understanding with the center-west state of Goias, a region rich in rare earth minerals -- a group of 17 heavy metals considered critical for the production of high-tech goods.
