ONAMBANGO, 12 FEB (NAMPA) – Leader of the Ondonga Traditional Authority, Fillemon Shuumbwa Nangolo, has urged newly appointed governors to remain committed to their responsibilities and continue the work of their predecessors, assuring them of the authority’s support.

Nangolo made the remarks during the annual stakeholder engagement meeting held at Onambango Palace on Wednesday, where he welcomed governors Hofni Iipinge of the Oshana Region, Kadiva Hamutumwa of the Ohangwena Region and Sacky Kathindi of the Oshikoto Region.

He called on the governors to work collaboratively and pledged the authority’s willingness to avail land for the construction of offices and schools to advance community development.

“To the new governors, the offices are allocated to you, and I am aware that you all have started with your duties. Let us work together. The Ondonga Traditional Authority is more than willing to work together with you and to avail land for developmental projects to build more offices or schools for our children,” Nangolo said.

He further urged all attendees to be productive in their respective workplaces and to render quality services with diligence.

“For those with offices that make an impact on people’s lives and government offices, work must be exactly as it should be. The offices must be open to the people, and we should serve them with passion, integrity and without fear,” Nangolo added.

Speaking at the same engagement, Iipinge said the region continues to face challenges that require collective efforts to address.

He cited ongoing illegal fencing of communal land, unregulated sand mining, recurring land and boundary disputes, as well as growing social concerns related to alcohol and substance abuse.

Other challenges include gender-based violence and declining discipline among some members of the youth, which he said place a strain on social cohesion, limit equitable access to land and resources, and slow development efforts.

“We therefore look to the guidance and authority of traditional leadership in strengthening awareness, promoting compliance with laws and customs, and restoring the values of respect, responsibility and peaceful coexistence within our communities,” Iipinge said.
