LÜDERITZ, 02 MAY (NAMPA) – ||Kharas Region Governor, Aletha Frederick has urged captains of the fishing industry, government agencies and all corporate entities in Namibia to continue supporting the annual Lüderitz Crayfish Festival.
She said the event serves as a vital business forum and a platform for socio-cultural engagement.
“The festival continues to serve as a platform to position Lüderitz as a leading tourism and investment hub in the country, significantly reshaping its economic and social landscape by offering SMEs a crucial opportunity to showcase their products and services,” Frederick said.
The governor was speaking at the official opening of the festival on Thursday saying socially, the festival acts as a catalyst for community interaction, drawing families and friends from across Namibia and beyond to reconnect.
“The festival serves as a platform to encourage domestic crayfish consumption, not only within Lüderitz but throughout Namibia. This annual event enriches Lüderitz’s cultural fabric and fosters the development of unique socio-cultural activities that celebrate local heritage,” she added.
Frederick also encouraged business owners to take advantage of the twinning agreement between the ||Kharas Region and the Northern Cape of South Africa and develop meaningful partnerships.
“As the duration of this festival allows us to engage, discover, and identify synergies that can enhance investment opportunities, I urge all entrepreneurs and business professionals to take advantage of this unique opportunity to engage our partners through the twining agreement,” she stressed.
Also speaking at the event, the chief director of policy research and innovation in the office of the Premier, in the Northern Cape, Gopane Mabilo said their government remains committed to strengthening the relationship between itself and the ||Kharas region through the twining agreement.
Mabilo, who was a guest speaker at the event said: "Efforts are at an advanced stage to sign a memorandum of understanding with the Northern Cape, Western Cape and the Eastern Cape as well as with Namibia on renewable energy because of the natural competitive advantage these regions have on green hydrogen and respective value chains."
"We believe that together we can find better ways to ensure development reaches every single person in our respective countries, creating more jobs and improving the lives of our people," Mabilo said.
