UK Conservatives pledge £10bn 'Britannia Shield' air defence system

London (PA Media/dpa) - The UK Conservative Party has pledged to invest £10 billion ($13.2 billion) in a new "iron dome" defence system aimed at protecting Britain and its overseas bases in the event of a future military attack. The so-called "Britannia Shield" would provide a network of radar, command and control systems to detect incoming strikes along with interceptor missiles and counter-drone capabilities, the Conservatives said.
