Trump 'wants to see' release of Lai, says White House as Xi arrives

New York (PA Media/dpa) - Donald Trump believes jailed Hong Kong democracy campaigner Jimmy Lai should be released and "wants to see that happen", the White House has said as Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in Washington for a three-day visit. The US is calling for the 78-year-old British citizen be freed on humanitarian grounds. Lai was sentenced to 20 years in prison earlier this year under a security law imposed by Beijing.
