BEIJING, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.39 percent to 3,936.52 points. The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.64 percent lower at 13,636.07 points. The combined turnover of stocks covered by these two indices stood at around 1.78 trillion yuan (about 263.8 billion U.S. dollars), down from 2.15 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.
