Over 1,500 Swimmers, Including Russians, Cross Dardanelles Strait in Turkey

CANAKKALE, Turkey, August 30 (RIA Novosti) - A total of 1,535 swimmers, including 50 Russians, crossed the Dardanelles Strait in Turkey on Sunday during the 39th Cross-continental Swimming Race, a RIA Novosti correspondent reported. The race is linked to the ancient Greek myth of Leander, who swam across the waterway every night to meet his beloved, the priestess Hero. The event is also held on Victory Day, one of Turkey's major national holidays......
