A Portuguese court on Monday sentenced a police officer to three and a half years in prison for murdering a Cape Verdean in 2024 in a crime that set off three nights of riots in Lisbon's suburbs. The killing occurred in a district subject to frequent police raids to curb drug dealing, and whose population -- mostly immigrants -- often accuses law enforcement of racism.
