Chile's government said Thursday that it would move to extend the detention period for undocumented migrants convicted of a crime from five to 180 days pending their deportation. Hard-right President Jose Antonio Kast was elected last year on a promise to drive out an estimated 330,000 irregular migrants, whom he blames for rising crime.
