Glider crashes in Germany killing 72-year-old pilot

Berlin (dpa) - A 72-year-old pilot has died in a glider crash in Germany just south-west of Hanover. The cause of the accident, which occurred on Saturday afternoon in the Hameln-Pyrmont district of Lower Saxony remains unclear, a police spokesman said. The glider came down in a remote area along a ridge after taking off from a nearby airfield. Rescue operations were still under way in the evening.
