Powerful winds toppled trees and electricity pylons in southern Italy on Monday, killing a 12-year-old girl and a labourer, ANSA press agency reported. Italian civil protection authorities had issued alerts for nine southern regions from Sicily up the Adriatic coast that predicted "violent" winds during the day.
