Germany wants trade ties with China that are open and based on "fair" competition, Chancellor Friedrich Merz said Tuesday as he left for a Beijing visit. "Competition is healthy, as long as it remains fair," Merz said amid frequent complaints in Europe about Chinese trade practices and Beijing's restrictions on critical mineral exports.
