German travel firm TUI posts strongest-ever winter start

Berlin (dpa) - Travel group TUI made its strongest-ever start to the winter season, driven by robust demand for hotels and cruises, the company said ahead of its annual general meeting on Tuesday. In the seasonally weak first quarter to the end of December, a period that has historically been loss-making, TUI reported adjusted operating profit of about ?77 million ($91.6 million), up around 50% from a year earlier.
