German inflation rate climbs to 2.1% in January

Frankfurt (dpa) - Germany's inflation rate rose to 2.1% year-on-year in January, official figures showed on Friday. The Federal Statistical Office said the rate increased by 0.3 percentage points from December, with consumer prices up 0.1% month-on-month. Food prices rose by 2.1%, well up from the 0.8% increase seen in December, with fruit and vegetables, coffee and meat all costing significantly more for consumers.
