Chile's left-wing presidential candidate, who is locked in a close race with the far-right, vowed Wednesday to show a "firm hand" on crime if elected next month. Jeannette Jara, a Communist former labor minister running on behalf of a broad left-wing coalition, has a slight lead over her hardline rival, lawyer Jose Antonio Kast, in polling ahead of the November 16 vote.
