WINDHOEK, 15 OCT (NAMPA) - A street procession led by women in uniform took place in Windhoek on Wednesday morning, marking the 25th anniversary of United Nations Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 1325 on Women, Peace and Security (WPS).
The event, which featured members of the Namibian Defence Force (NDF), Namibian Police Force (NamPol), Namibian Correctional Services (NCS) and City Police, was attended by senior government officials and representatives from various ministries.
In her remarks, International Relations and Trade Minister Selma Ashipala-Musavyi expressed pride in the women who serve in Namibia’s security forces, saying the procession was a demonstration of “unity, strength, and purpose.
“Today’s procession has been a visible expression of unity, strength and purpose, led by women in uniform… women who flew the Namibian flag high and demonstrated that women are not only beneficiaries but active contributors to peace and security efforts globally,” Ashipala-Musavyi said.
The minister emphasised Namibia’s pioneering role as the first African country to adopt a National Action Plan on UNSCR 1325, underlining the country’s commitment to ensuring that women are fully included in peacebuilding and security processes.
“This march reminds us that the WPS Agenda is not merely a policy framework, but a living commitment to ensuring that women, from all walks of life, are recognised, empowered, and included in shaping our nation’s peace and security landscape,” she stated.
Ashipala-Musavyi also expressed her gratitude to the Security Cluster, women peacekeepers, and various government ministries for their contributions to the success of the event.
