Erdogan Calls NATO Decision to Raise Defense Spending to 5% of GDP 'Necessary'

ANKARA, June 25 (RIA Novosti) - Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Wednesday called NATO's decision to obligate its member states to spend 5% of their GDP on defense "necessary" in the face of crises. Earlier in the day, the NATO summit raised the target threshold for defense spending by alliance members to 5% of GDP, which countries are expected to reach by 2035.
