Woman commits suicide at Calikawo Village

NKURENKURU, 28 MAY (NAMPA)- A 34-year-old woman, identified as Helena Haupindi, reportedly committed suicide after she quarrelled with her daughter over drought relief maize meal at Calikawo Village in the Kavango West region on Tuesday.
Chief Inspector Raimbert Muronga confirmed the incident which occurred at about 19h00.
“It is alleged that the deceased committed suicide by hanging herself on a tree branch, after she allegedly quarrelled with her daughter over drought relief maize meal. Her body was found lying on the ground after she was untied by her brother in an attempt to save her life," he said.
The deceased's body was transported to the Nkurenkuru police mortuary pending autopsy, and her next of kin were informed.
In another incident, a 25-year-old woman was allegedly murdered at Sivara Village in the Kavango West region on Tuesday, after she was strangled with a cloth and died on the spot.
According to Muronga: “It is also suspected that the deceased might have been raped, however this have to be confirmed through a postmortem.”
No suspect was arrested, and police investigations continue.
