Power was cut to part of Mexico's Baja California peninsula on Monday as Hurricane Polo bore down on the Pacific Coast, causing flooding as the sea breached coastal defenses. The Category 3 storm is the first hurricane of this year's season to make landfall, turbo-charged by the El Nino weather phenomenon which has caused unprecedented warming in the equatorial Pacific.
