The United States on Wednesday expressed "significant concerns" over China's conviction of a prominent artist whose works criticized former leader Mao Zedong. A State Department spokesperson said "diplomats from the US Embassy in Beijing and several other diplomatic missions attempted to observe the verdict and sentencing" of Gao Zhen, but were barred by courthouse authorities.
