German museum returns painting seized during Soviet occupation

Berlin (dpa) - The German Historical Museum in Berlin (DHM) announced on Monday that it had returned a painting confiscated in the Soviet occupation zone during a dispossession operation in 1945. The DHM said the oil painting, an 1876 portrait of historian Leopold von Ranke (1795-1886) by Adolf Jebens, had been returned to the von der Schulenberg family. The painting was seized from the Lodersleben palace in Querfurt in the state of Saxony-Anhalt......
