1 (KATIMA MULILO, 28 MAR (NAMPA) – A group of 95 volunteers who have been serving at the Ministry of Health and Social Services in the Zambezi Region on Friday protested against the ministry’s recent recruitment process, claiming they were overlooked for permanent employment despite years of voluntary service.
The ministry advertised entry-level positions, including those of cleaners and labourers, in December last year. Written and oral interviews were conducted in February this year, with over 2 500 applicants invited to compete for 25 vacancies.
The group, in their protest at Katima Mulilo, called on Minister of Health and Social Services, Dr Esperance Luvindao, as well as regional political leaders, to intervene, arguing that some long-serving volunteers should have been prioritised instead of being left unemployed after years of service.
The protesters alleged favouritism and nepotism in the recruitment process at Katima Mulilo District Hospital, claiming some human resources officials colluded to favour relatives and friends.
“We have observed that nepotism is practiced when recruiting institutional workers. We therefore demand for an anti-nepotism policy in order to eliminate the nepotism practices within the institution. Corruption is too much,” said group spokesperson Obadia Sambi while reading a letter addressed to Luvindao.

2 (London (PA Media/dpa) - Huge crowds are expected to come to London for a Together Alliance event on Saturday which has been framed as an attempt to stand up against the "politics of division."
Organizers expect the rally, which they said will likely draw thousands, will be peaceful amid police-imposed restrictions on where and when people can gather.
Saturday's event - featuring a march, speeches on Whitehall and a music event in Trafalgar Square - comes seven months on from the Unite the Kingdom rally.
That demonstration - organized by right-wing activist Tommy Robinson, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon - was attended by more than 100,000 people, while about 5,000 were involved in an anti-racism counter-demonstration.
There were several incidents of violent disorder which left some police officers injured.

A Lebanese military field source has previously told RIA Novosti that an Israeli drone strike killed Lebanese journalists.
"President Joseph Aoun condemned the Israeli attack on journalists Ali Shaib, Fatima Ftouni and Mohammad Ftouni. This is a blatant crime that violates all norms and agreements that protect journalists," the statement read.

4 (TEHRAN, March 28 (RIA Novosti) - The Iranian armed forces attacked a US Navy support ship in the port of Salalah in Oman at a distance of more than 1,000 kilometers (620 miles) from the coast of the Islamic Republic, Ebrahim Zolfaghari, spokesman for the Khatam Al-Anbiya central headquarters of the Iranian military command, said on Saturday.
"Early this morning, on March 28, 2026, a support ship for the US aggressor army ... in the port of Salalah in the state of Oman became the target of an attack by the armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran," Zolfaghari was quoted by Iranian state-run broadcaster IRIB.
He also said that the number of US refueling aircraft destroyed in the attack on the US military base Prince Sultan in Saudi Arabia has increased to two.
Earlier in the day, Zolfaghari said that the Iranian armed forces had destroyed one tanker aircraft and damaged three more aircraft as a result of a strike on the US Prince Sultan military base.

5 (Frankfurt (dpa) - Nine out of ten people in Germany expect the cost of living to increase in the coming months, according to a survey conducted in March by YouGov on behalf of Postbank.
Of the 2,028 people surveyed, 32.2% anticipate significant price increases.
"Many people still vividly remember how strongly prices were driven up by Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022," said Ulrich Stephan, chief investment strategist for private and corporate clients at Deutsche Bank, which owns Postbank.
"Current developments in the Middle East show that geopolitical conflicts once again have the potential to fuel inflation through rising energy prices."
Many economists also expect inflation to pick up in the coming months due to higher oil and gas prices, although they caution that the extent of the increase will depend on the duration of the war in Iran.
Germany's inflation rate fell to 1.9% in February, dropping back below the European Central Bank's 2% target. The Federal Statistical Office is due to release a preliminary estimate for March on Monday.
