A Cuban court on Monday denied a request for early release of the dissident artist Luis Manuel Otero Alcantara as he nears the end of a five-year prison sentence, an NGO said. Otero Alcantara, 38, was arrested on July 11, 2021, while he was leaving his Havana home to join demonstrations in which thousands of Cubans protested with shouts of "we are hungry" and "down with the dictatorship."
