EU chief Ursula von der Leyen on Monday backed a push to favour European firms over foreign rivals in "strategic" fields, ahead of a leaders' meeting on boosting the bloc's competitiveness. "Europe must be able both to defend its strategic interests and to actively support domestic value creation.
