Gunmen opened fire Thursday on the convoy of a Colombian senator, killing his two bodyguards, in an attack that fueled fears of violence ahead of upcoming parliamentary and presidential elections. Green Party Senator Jairo Castellanos was not in his vehicle when it came under attack in northeastern Arauca region, on the border with Venezuela and a bastion of the ELN guerrilla group, authorities said.
