NEW YORK, Jan. 29 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar edged lower in late trading on Thursday. The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, decreased by 0.17 percent to 96.285 at 3:00 p.m. (2000 GMT). In late New York trading, the euro advanced to 1.1951 dollars from 1.1928 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound rose to 1.3802 dollars from 1.3776 U.S. dollars in the previous session.
