US weekly jobless claims dip more than expected

Washington (dpa-AFX) - The US Labor Department said on Wednesday that first-time claims for unemployment benefits fell by more than expected in the week ended December 20, pointing to continued stability in the labour market. Initial jobless claims declined to 214,000, down 10,000 from the previous week's unrevised level of 224,000. Economists had forecast a more modest drop to 223,000.
