Quarter of German bookshops close in just five years

Frankfurt (dpa) - The number of bookshops in Germany fell by almost a quarter in just five years between 2018 and 2023, official data showed on Tuesday. Germany had around 2,980 retail bookshops in 2023, down from almost 4,000 companies in the sector in 2018, the Federal Statistical Office said.
