WINDHOEK, 14 AUG (NAMPA) – Moses //Garoeb Constituency Councillor Stefanus Ndengu has emphasised the need for communities to ensure the welfare of the elderly and vulnerable residents, saying that they should never be left without support during difficult times.
Ndengu made the remarks during the handover of 100 blankets valued at N.dollar 50 000 on Wednesday, as part of the constituency’s Winter Safe Net Programme, which seeks to assist elderly residents and other vulnerable people during the cold season.
He said elders, in particular, often face hardships that limit their ability to provide for themselves.
“We know how they are. They cannot care for themselves. They have to be cared for by someone, which is their children. We are their children, and we need to care for them,” Ndengu said.
The beneficiaries, identified through community leaders, include 100 elders and vulnerable individuals, with 70 receiving blankets at the ceremony and the rest to be reached in the coming days.
Ndengu adde that leaders within the constituency are best placed to know which residents are most in need.
“This programme is an expression of our shared humanity and our shared commitment to ensuring that no one in our constituency is left vulnerable during the harsh winter months,” he said, adding that the blankets symbolise the community’s solidarity.
Ndengu further encouraged residents to continue uniting in compassion.
“Let us extend a helping hand to those in need and ensure our community remains a place where kindness and compassion are guiding values,” he said.
The Winter Safe Net Programme is funded by the Khomas Regional Council and forms part of ongoing constituency-level initiatives to provide relief to residents facing seasonal and economic hardships.
