Fire causes major damage in northern Germany as wind hampers response

Berlin (dpa) - A major fire destroyed a building in northern Germany, causing an estimated ?1 million ($1.15 million) in damage, as emergency services struggled to respond in windy conditions, police said on Monday. The fire broke out in a restaurant in the town of Gifhorn, east of Hanover, and quickly spread across the upper floor.
