Elephant dies of herpes in German zoo

Munich (dpa) - An elephant has died of herpes at a zoo in the southern German city of Munich. Five-year-old Otto succumbed to a serious illness after catching a dangerous herpes virus, the Hellabrunn Zoo said in a statement on Monday. The animal was found to be ill on Saturday, with a pre-existing vaccination and further medical treatment unable to prevent his passing.
