The new German government of conservative Chancellor Friedrich Merz is deploying thousands of extra police officers to enforce a tougher border policy, media reported on Wednesday. The Bild daily said new Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt had given an order for 2,000 to 3,000 extra federal officers to be sent to Germany's borders, in addition to the 11,000 already in place.
