MOSCOW, May 1 (RIA Novosti) - Birth rate in developed countries should exceed 2.7, and not 2.1 as previously believed, in order to prevent long-term extinction of populations, a Japanese study, published in the Plos One journal, has found. "The results indicate that the fertility rate should exceed 2.7 to avoid extinction," the abstract read.
