EPUKIRO, 24 MAR (NAMPA) – Sanet Steenkamp’s appointment as the Minister of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sport, Arts and Culture has been met with positive reactions from key figures in the Omaheke Region.
Regional education director, Constance Wantenaar, shared with Nampa that Steenkamp has been a strong advocate for education and has demonstrated a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities within the system.
“I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Steenkamp in her new role as education minister,” she said.
The director said she looks forward to working closely with the minister to implement policies that will drive positive transformation and ensure inclusive, equitable, and quality education for all.
Steenkamp’s extensive experience and unwavering dedication to the education sector, Wantenaar said, make her a fitting choice for this critical role.
Omaheke Chief Regional Officer, Peka Semba, said the minister is a seasoned technocrat and an excellent administrator and manager.
“She is capable enough to succeed with the necessary support and synergy from all gatekeepers in the ministry. Her interpersonal relations are a big plus point in her rich resume,” said Semba, who previously served as Omaheke’s education director.
“Having worked with her for years as a colleague (when both were directors) and under her leadership as executive director in the education ministry, I have no doubt that her innate leadership skills will help to tick the boxes positively,” said Semba.
The CRO said merging the basic education and higher education ministries is a daunting task, but said it is not the first time these ministries operate as one.
“I think she will succeed with her qualities, experience, work ethic, analytical skills, consultative and proactive nature,” said Semba.
He added that Steenkamp obtained her PhD in leadership and management, which is a crucial qualification in her new role.
“Above all, she is very passionate and humble by nature. I am sure she will greatly succeed,” said the former education director.
