NKURENKURU, 20 MAR (NAMPA) – Nasria on Wednesday donated 44 mattresses valued at N.dollars 50 000 to Mburu-uru Primary School in the Kavango West Region, where hostel learners are forced to sleep on the floor.
The Mburu-uru community hostel accommodates 70 learners (41 boys and 29 girls), a significant increase from the 41 learners housed last year.
Handing over the mattresses, Nasria marketing executive Ndapona Schleberger urged principals, teachers, and parents to work together and approach companies for help.
“Without education, we cannot prosper and we cannot go forward because through learning we get to produce engineers, teacher and other professionals. Let us collaborate, be pro-active and engage corporates,” said Schleberger.
She encouraged learners to prioritise their studies, saying that the provision of mattresses would eliminate sleep deprivation, which negatively impacts academic performance.
Inspector of Education for the Katjinakatji Circuit, Thomas Nyambe, said the donation is an investment in the future of the learners and the overall improvement of the education system.
Nyambe encouraged the school management to use the donation as motivation to work harder and aim higher.
“A school that receives support must also show improvement in academic performance, discipline and community engagement,” the inspector said.
School principal Emersiana Siteketa expressed her gratitude to Nasria for the donation.
"Amongst all the challenges we face, the most pressing one is the shortage of food. Learners do not eat breakfast; they eat soft porridge for lunch and pap for dinner. As we speak, we don’t have anything in the storeroom for the learners to eat for the upcoming week,” Siteketa said.
