NKURENKURU, 06 MAR (NAMPA) - The Nkurenkuru expo hall, open market and fire station were officially inaugurated on Wednesday.
In a speech read on his behalf, Urban and Rural Development Minister Erastus Uutoni said Nkurenkuru, as the capital of the Kavango West Region, continues to grow, hence the need for modern facilities that cater to the needs of the community.
“Open markets are crucial assets for small-scale traders, entrepreneurs, and the informal sector. It provides a structured, safe, and clean environment for vendors to conduct business, fostering local economic growth. Markets like these empower small business owners, create job opportunities, and contribute to poverty reduction,” he said.
He stated that the Nkurenkuru expo hall is a symbol of growth and progress that will provide a modern venue for exhibitions, trade fairs, and community events.
It will serve as a hub for businesses, investors, and local entrepreneurs to showcase their products and services while creating networking opportunities, attracting investment, and stimulating regional tourism, he added.
Uutoni encouraged traders and business owners to take advantage of the new facility and use it as a steppingstone to greater financial success.
With regards to the fire station, the minister said firefighters must be well equipped to respond fast and effectively to any emergency. He called on all stakeholders to take ownership of the facilities and use them responsibly.
In his remarks at the same event, Nkurenkuru Mayor Jafet Muti said they envision the expo hall as a place where people will come together to exchange ideas, learn from one another, and foster new partnerships that will drive sustainable growth in the town and beyond.
The open market, he stated, will foster an inclusive and thriving economy that allows local businesses to flourish, create jobs and promote economic self-sufficiency.
“Let us continue to work together and remain united in our collective effort to develop Nkurenkuru into a town that will serve as a model of progress and resilience for future generations,” Muti said.
