TSUMEB, 03 MAR (NAMPA) - A 31-year-old man succumbed to his injuries after he was struck with a wine bottle during an argument at a bar at Onathinge village in the Oshikoto Region on Sunday.
The Namibian Police Force’s Regional Crime Investigations Coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Titus Ekandjo, said the incident occurred around 23h00 and the deceased was identified as Amon Kakwena.
It is alleged that while in the bar, a quarrel erupted between Kakwena and a 23-year-old man who is said to be related to Kakwena’s girlfriend. The couple left the bar, but the suspect allegedly followed them and grabbed a bottle of Tassenberg, which he used to strike Kakwena with.
“The deceased suffered a deep cut wound on the left side of his neck and left eye and was rushed to the Onaneyna Health Centre, from where he was transferred to the Onandjokwe State Hospital for further treatment. He died later in hospital,” Ekandjo said.
The deceased’s body was taken to the Onandjokwe Hospital's mortuary, where a postmortem will be carried out.
Meanwhile, a 56-year-old woman reportedly died after a pick-up drove over her while she was lying in the road at Onakalunga village in the Omuthiya Constituency on Saturday.
The incident occurred around 22h00 and the deceased has been identified as Christine Nangombe.
According to Ekandjo, the 56-year-old driver of a white Isuzu pick-up was reportedly driving from Onakalunga cucashop heading back home when he drove over the woman, who happened to be his neighbour. She died on the spot.
Prior to the incident, the driver and his wife had allegedly been drinking with Nangombe and others at the cucashop.
Nangombe's body was transported to the Omuthiya Police mortuary for an autopsy. The driver has been arrested and is scheduled to appear before the Ondangwa Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
Police investigations continue.
