NKURENKURU, 30 JAN (NAMPA)- A 22-year-old man, identified as Damian Haikera, was allegedly attacked by a crocodile while bathing at a river at Kafuma village in Kavango West Region on Wednesday.
Chief Inspector Raimbert Muronga of The Namibian Police Force confirmed the incident to Nampa, saying it occurred at around 15h00.
It is alleged that the victim went to the river for bathing and in the process while bathing he was attacked by a crocodile.
Muronga said the victim escaped with a broken right arm, some bruises on the right foot and on the left arm. The victim was rescued by public members and was taken to Nankudu Hospital for treatment; however, he was immediately transferred to Rundu State Hospital for further medical attention.
Muronga warned community members to be cautions and strictly refrain from swimming in the river during this time of flooding.
“People should always be accompanying by someone when going to the river side as the river has filled up, and reptiles as well as dangerous animals are imminent, including crocodiles and hippos, while snakes remain a threat”, said Muronga.
